Hibernation time-out not working, manual hibernation ok... please help

Hoping MVP's can help...

Have checked various Expert Zones incl. KellyTheriot's, Doug Knox's, Bob Cerelli's site.

System running XP Home 2 months old. All aspects of hibernation worked until 1 week ago. Can still
manually hibernate from Shut Down menu and power button, but hibernation time-out does not work...
remains in stand-by.

- suspension states in BIOS set correctly
- hibernation enabled
- have reinstalled display drivers
- settings are screensaver(5min), HDD/monitor(15min), stand-by(20min), hibernation(30min)
- cannot track down when hibernation stopped after install of various updates/hotfixes

Any relevant suspension/hibernation entries in registry?
Any relevant settings in Services?

Appreciate any help. Thank you.

Hi,

Lack of that function is nearly always related to a noncompliant driver
being installed. Were any of the updates you did recently a driver upgrade?
If so, you may need to rollback to the previous version. This is done from
the control panel/system/hardware tab, click on device manager. Expand the
branches, double-click the suspect device, on the driver tab is the rollback
option.

Thanks for your reply.
I did install MSPlus, and activated the Aquarium screensaver. That was when it stopped working. Then
I reactivated the Starfield screensaver, and it worked again, but lately not. I wonder if the
Aquarium screensaver changed anything?

I checked the drivers available from Q306676: "The Computer Cannot Enter Standby or Hibernate If a
Direct3D-Based Screen Saver Is Running", but the file versions of the drivers on my 2month old
system are more recent.

I'll try rolling back the Display drivers. Thanks.
