Hibernation and power off drop down problem

Rob

I would like to be able to put my computer into hibernation and it is
supported as I have the hibernation tab. The problem is that I cannot get
the drop down box for shut down. Instead I get three icons. Logoff, Standby,
and Shut Down. How do I change this to a drop down list box with
hibernation.

Help would be very appreciated.
Rob.

i guess you never hovered over the standby button. if you had, you
would see balloon help telling you to press "Shift" to hibernate.

no prob, Rob.

I just got a second PC with the hibernation feature, but I couldn't find
any way to make the "sleep" key put it into hibernation. A tech at HP
found the solution: on our new HP PC, it had to have the Power
Management scheme changed from "Energy Star" to "Home Office/Desktop".
Then the sleep button could be programed to "hibernate". On my other HP
PC, the sleep button CAN be programmed to hibernate, even when the
scheme is set to "Energy Star". go figure! :)

I have been able to put my computer into hibernation since you told me
about the hover but I have found the way to do it like I was explaining to
you.
You go into control panel and users accounts then change the way you log on
and untick the use the welcome screen option..
Give it a try .

Hi Rob, does changing the welcome screen change the shutdown screen
options? I'm not clear on your explanation...

Yes the change of the welcome screen does change the way that you log off,
shut down etc.
It gives you a drop down menu instead of buttons which I personnally prefer.
