Hi-Jacked pc ?

Has my PC been hi-jacked?

My task bar performance tab is indicating 100% cpu usage
& 512 mb usage when it should be on idle.

The task bar prosesses tab is showing a program running
using 54,000 k

System restore will not work & task bar does not
show my minimized windows.

Do I have some sort of virus?

what can I do?

There is no way for us to know if you have "some sort of virus". What
antivirus program do you have installed (name and version)?

Do the preparatory work here:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Include scanning with either Sysclean or Multi_AV, and possibly Ewido per
instructions at the link above.

Then continue with the general malware removal steps.

Have just found a rootkit on my machine- sorted by F-secure's
blacklight.

Try the above as well as online virus scans (they won't find rootkits).

Have you tried to disable all the startup programs using msconfig, if not
then u can try it, it helped in my case, if it works after disabling all of
them then you will have to figure out which one of those is causing the
problem.

Thanks for the response,

I have Norton anti-virus 2006, and my task bar proesses is now back to normal.

Should I still run the malware program?

Thanks Viper,
I went into msconfig & I noticed that there was a program called ccApp, this
I belive was the program running in my task bar prosesses tab.

What do you think?

ccApp is one of the core Symantec/Norton files - the Common Client
Application. It's supposed to be there if you have these products
involved. Yes, at various points it will use a lot of cycles.

Thanks,

Shortly after sendings this e-mail I did a search and found ccApp as a
sysmatic file
I will run the RootkitRevealer and Ad-aware proprams as a precaution
I also turned my system restore on and off. to reset it
I used a quick fix that was listed on this site to get my minimized windows on
the task bar.

Things are looking better

Thanks for the help

Yes, it's only a matter of time until the Trojan sends out another 250,000
spams.
