Helping seniors

I would like to help the seniors at a Senior Center.

Will Vista allow you to revert back to "Tradional View" with MS Word ?

Thanks.

Vista or XP are operating systems, Word is a program that runs on top of the
operating system. If you are talking about the ribbon bar on the Office
2007 programs (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) then no. The ribbon is a "feature"
of Office 2007. There are 3rd party add-ons that will accomplish this but
Microsoft doesn't supply any for free. They have links on the MS Store that
pushes you to a for-pay add-on site that costs $19+ per program.

http://in.geocities.com/shahshaileshs/menuaddins is one site but can't
guarantee that it works 100%.

There are other add-ons but I would recommend you Google for them.

There are reputedly that do this. Google "office 2007 classic menu".

If you're referring to the 2007 ribbons versus the 2003 and earlier menus, I
personally find the ribbon much easier to use as you don't have to go down
more than one sublevel. You can get free cross references at MS. One is Word
2003 to Word 2007 Command reference; it allows you to select an item in the
2003 menu and it tells you where it is in the 2007 ribbon. After spending a
very short time working with the ribbon it becomes obvious where things are.

It's not an issue with Vista, but with Word.

Put your question (with more detail/explanation) to the experts:

The operating system (Vista) has absolutely no bearing on "reverting to
'Traditional View.' in Word or Office" That's a purely Word/Office
issue. What version of Word/Office is installed? If it's Word/Office
2007, there' no "traditional view" to go back to.

Well word 2000 looks exactly the same in Vista as it did in ME and XP. I
haven't used 2007 it does look a lot "busier" from screenshots. To me it
looks like the way vista does out of the box - thats until I've set it to
classic views.

Which bits specifically don't you like?

Can you not tidy up the tool bar areas by removing everything but the basics
and just set up a standard letter template for them? In earlier versions you
have the option to only show the toolbars (and items within) that you
actually need.

Just what do you mean by "Tradional View"?

Tyro

As in Word 2000 for example.

Thanks.

I will figure a way to make it easier for them and write a tutorial
for using it.

Or I may see if the city would allow putting on an older version.

The version of IE is still pretty easy to use.

Take care,

Why reinvent the wheel? A tutorial already exists. Microsoft Office Word

ISBN-13: 978-0-7356-2302-6. It even has pictures! It's also very easy
reading. Microsoft Press has other Step by Step books too.

Yes, certainly. It's always done much more harm than good.
