HELP!!!

A while back i tried to set up a home network on my old desktop and my
laptop. Unfortunately, with no success as I really don't have a clue. I
have since gotten a new desktop running WinXP. I have never tried to set up
a network on my new computer. A couple of months ago after the installation
of a new printer, my desktop started showing the login box when I booted it
up, just clicked ok and it continued. This drives me nuts so I asked my
husband to try to get rid of it. He went and deleted that computer(it was
named 'a') in 'local area network' and now my computer won't boot at all
because it can't find 'a'. I have no idea how to get my machine to boot up
since I can't get past the login screen. HELP!!!! Anyone out there know
how to fix this???
Thank you
