Help:XP2 can't go to sleep & hibernate

hello,my notebook got some problem with standby & hibernate option
just since this month, that is when i try to sleep my xp, the system
get no repsonse, with very high useage of cpu and memory, and i cannot
do anything but to cut off power to reboot, seeking for help, thx.
