Hi,
I'm having a booting problem with Windows XP SP2. I can't get it to boot at
all normally (stops right as it would turn on the VGA card--hmmm) and it
stops after loading MUP.sys in safe mode.
I know the much-maligned MUP.sys is not causing the stop--it's whatever
comes after it. So, I've used the recovery console to try and fix things, but
most of the functions there scare me. I'm not sure what FIXMBR or similar
commands will do to my data--so I don't want to try them.
Unfortunately, my OEM XP CD does not have an in-place repair function for
the already-installed XP. I don't want to lose my data--but I do want to
actually be able to access it sometime soon. I have backups, but they're a
bit old and we loaded lots of digital photos after the holidays, so I don't
want to do a clean install.
Any solutions? What am I missing or doing wrong?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark
