I have 2 PC's both running XP pro networked thru a 4 port hub PC 1 is an ICS machine with XP Fire wall running I am also running McaFee Virus checker on PC 1

Everthing works fine the internet is shared okay and the PC 1 the ICS machine can file share PC 2's files, however altho I can see PC 1 from PC 2 I am unable to file share I get the following message

" PC 1 is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this resource.Contact the amiistrator of this server to find out if u have permissions, Access is denied. "

All the drives on PC 1 and 2 and set to file share , I can Ping PC 1 from PC 2 okay I have tried uninstalling Mcafee Virus Checker,Guest Account is Enabled,I have tried installing net Bios, I have fixed the PC address on PC 2 and set the default gateway to 192.168.0.1.
This network has been working okay until I reinstall XP on both machies due to virus infections.

Help where do I go next any 1 any ideas please.

Thanks in advance

Glad to see that I'm not the only one with this problem.
We have 6 PCs on a network and I can no longer access the
server running XP pro. Always 'access denied / might not
have permission'. It worked last week, but just stopped
for whatever reason. Can't find anything on the web.

Anyone any ideas...?

Thanks,

Mark

Neil,

On any XP Pro computer, check to see if Simple File Sharing (Control Panel -
Folder Options - View - Advanced settings) is enabled or disabled. With XP Pro,
you need to have the SFS settings properly set on each computer.

With XP Pro, if SFS is disabled, check the Local Security Policy (Control Panel
- Administrative Tools). Under Local Policies - Security Options, look at
"Network access: Sharing and security model", and ensure it's set to "Classic -
local users authenticate as themselves".

With XP Pro, if you set the Local Security Policy to "Guest only", make sure
that the Guest account is enabled, thru Local User Manager (Start - Run -
"lusrmgr.msc"), and has an identical, non-blank, password on all computers. If
"Classic", setup and use a common non-Guest account, with identical, non-blank,
password on all computers.

For XP Pro with Simple File Sharing enabled, make sure that the Guest account is
enabled, thru Local User Manager (Start - Run - "lusrmgr.msc"), on each
computer.

Is ICF running on the LAN connection on PC1? If so, you need to configure it
for file sharing, by opening ports TCP 139, 445 and UDP 137, 138, 445. Firewall
configurations are a very common cause of (network) browser, and file sharing,
problems.

Cheers,
Chuck
