That depends on what part od the start menu lists the shortcut.

Go to start/run, and type

"%userprofile%/start menu/Programs"

Bonnie

mark,
i typed in the info but didn't know what to do with it.
the shortcuts are at the top of the start tab, when
you hit the start button.
i used to be able to add and remove stuff all
the time but now it is like everything is "locked"

thanks,
bonnie

If your right click menu is missing in the Start Menu...

XP Start Menu >>
Right click the Start button | Properties |
Start Menu tab | Customize button | Advanced tab |
Scroll down to and Check: Enable dragging and dropping |
Click OK | Click OK

Classic Start Menu >>
Right click the Start button | Properties |
Start Menu tab | Customize button |
Scroll down to and Check: Enable dragging and dropping |
Click OK | Click OK

Enable dragging and dropping
[[Prevents users from using the drag-and-drop method to reorder or remove
items on the Start menu. Also, this entry removes context menus from the
Start Menu.]]

Check the Windows Registry, there may be security policies that prevent Start Menu changes.
Start\Run\type: "regedit" (w/o quotes) and press Enter
Check in both Local Machine and Current User registry hives.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartMenu\Policy\NoChangeStartMenu\ (check for enabled value, if no value is present, there is no policy in effect)HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartMenu\StartMenu\StartMenuChange\Policy\NoChangeStartMenu\ (check for enabled value, if no value is present, there is no policy in effect)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\"NoChangeStartMenu"=dword: 1 (one enables the policy)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\"NoChangeStartMenu"=dword: 0 (zero disables the policy)

If Enable dragging and dropping is available on the Start Menu Properties,
there is no need to look at Group Policy or the registry.

Remove Drag-and-drop context menus on the Start Menu Policy...
[[Prevents users from using the drag-and-drop method to reorder or remove
items on the Start menu. Also, it removes context menus from the Start menu.

If you disable this setting or do not configure it, users can remove or
reorder Start menu items by dragging and dropping the item. They can display
context menus by right-clicking a Start menu item.

This setting does not prevent users from using other methods of customizing
the Start menu or performing the tasks available from the context menus.]]

NoChangeStartMenu stores the setting of the Remove Drag-and-drop context
menus on the Start Menu Group Policy.

Enabling Remove Drag-and-drop context menus on the Start Menu from Group
Policy\User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar
sets NoChangeStartMenu to 1 in both of these keys...

Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
and removes Enable dragging and dropping Start Menu Properties.

Setting Remove Drag-and-drop context menus on the Start Menu to Not

Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
and adds Enable dragging and dropping back to Start Menu Properties.

Disabling Remove Drag-and-drop context menus on the Start Menu from Group
Policy\User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar
adds **del.NoChangeStartMenu with a nul value to this key...

Glad to help, Bonnie.

If you do not write poetry, you might want to look at your text wrap
settings.

Outlook Express | Tools | Options | Send tab | New Sending Format \ Plain
Text Settings button | Automatically wrap text at XX characters, when
sending.

[[Specifies whether Outlook Express should automatically wrap the text of
outgoing messages so that each line is no more than the number of characters
indicated. Some older Internet mail programs do not properly display
messages with lines over 80 characters long. If you clear this check box,
your message might appear to have extra line breaks to recipients whose mail
or news reading program can display only 80 characters per line.
It is suggested that you set your limit to about 72 characters. Most mail
and news reading programs indent quoted text in replies or forwards. Setting
the limit to 72 allows the message to be quoted several times without
causing extra line breaks.]]

HTML
also
has
text
wrap
settings.

Substitute
HTML Settings button
for
Plain
Text Settings button
in
my
other
post.

99% of the folks here have Read all messages in plain text set anyway.
