Help with recovering data after reinstall.

My sister's computer wouldn't start one day, so she
called me over. I tried to do a installation repair from
her XP Pro CD, but the repair option was not available.

So (and this is where I probably goofed up) I reinstalled
to the same directory as the original install. I
realized that her old account directories might be
deleted, but it seemed to be our only choice.

After the reinstallation, I noticed that the old account
directories are still there. However, I get an 'Access
is Denied' error when I try to get in them to save the
old info.

Is there some way to log in to these old directories so
the information contained in them can be recovered?
