Try Restoration (http://www.snapfiles.com/php/download.php?id=106926), which
is a free file undelete utility.

This program has been recommended several times on Call for Help on G4.

Also look over the search results from
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...overy+free+site:callforhelptv.com&btnG=Search
for free data recovery tools recommended by Call for Help. Or you can look
over the results from
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all&q=data+recovery+site:callforhelptv.com&btnG=Search
for all the data recovery tools recommended by Call for Help.

Although, some people have tried using this technique in the past with
limited success.

Its funny you mention that... I accidentally blocked something, when I
rebooted my laptop I found it was actually something I used. I went to the
unblock it, saw the item, clicked on it, but before I could click unblock it
disappeared. Now the block list is empty! What happened to the blocked
things?

Try looking in c:\program files\microsoft antispyware\deactivated items and
see if it's there.

If so, move it elsewhere, close MSAS, move the files back, and restart MSAS.

....uh, NO, there's no tech support for Microsoft Anti-Spyware, just us newsgroup
users like you. Quoting the page you downloaded it from:
Beta Support Policy:
This is pre-release (beta) software distributed for feedback and testing
purposes. Microsoft does not provide technical support for beta releases (see
below for information about how to gain access to newsgroups). If Windows
AntiSpyware (Beta) is causing an issue with your system, we recommend removing
it by using Add or Remove Programs and even using System Restore if the problem
persists.

oh and something else, TCip... while you on the Beta download page click Release
Notes

-or just read this-
Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) may prompt you to remove some peer-to-peer (P2P) file
sharing programs. If you choose to remove such a program, Windows AntiSpyware
(Beta) deletes the entire contents of the Program Files directory that relates
to the P2P program. Because some P2P programs store downloaded files in a
default directory under Program Files, this might remove all files downloaded
through the file-sharing program. For example, KaZaA stores .exe and .dll files
at C:\Program Files\Kazaa. Downloaded files are stored at C:\Program
Files\Kazaa\My Shared Folder. If you use Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) to remove
KaZaA, all files and folders under C:\Program Files\Kazaa are removed. If you
have installed any P2P file sharing programs, we recommend that you make a
backup copy of your downloaded files before running Windows AntiSpyware (Beta).

WOW

thank you so much Dave
I take bak every bad thing i thought about newsgroups
you guys are better than tech support.
not only did u answer my question, but put in the relevant quotes....

this reminds me of the newsgroups i belong to, where i helped people in
detail....

and of course, dopes like me who have no concept of "Beta" didnt read the
fine print. the below looks like it was written just for me. dang.

so i am off to reinstall bearshare, and learn my lesson.
have Microsoft antispyware accept it in the future automatically

Fight Win Prevail
But never can figure out these computers

I have a similar problem... accidentally deleted my P2P!

1)The last scan shows that Kazaa is in quarantine
2) Quarantine does not show Kazaa
3) Based on my HD's free space, Kazaa including incomplete downloads are
still present
4) Kazaa does not exist in Recycle Bin, Windows Explorer, or a HD search for
'kaza" & ".dat"

Even if I will loose my Kazaa settings and partial downloads, how do I get
Anti-Spyware to either free up the Kazaa HD space or restore it completely?

If the quarantine screen should show lettering reading "there are currently
no spyware threats in your spyware." (sic) when it is empty.

If you do not see that lettering on the empty screen, leave that screen
open. Go away for a long time--have dinner, go out to a movie, give it
overnight. Wait and see if the files are shown. Read the help on how to
unquarantine.

If/when the files DO show up, after unquarantining, I STRONGL:Y recommend
moving them to a non-default location--perhaps My Music, before the next
reboot. There've been reports throughout the beta of files being lost again
on the next reboot.

The files are in a quarantine subfolder of the Microsoft Antispyware
installation folder. They are renamed--i.e. if named back, they remain
playable. However, I've yet to hear of anyone with the patience to make use
of this information, or some hypothetical batch process, to actually rename
and recover the files.
