help with lycos sidesearch

Greetings
I'm trying desparately to remove lycos sidesearch engine
which got stuck to internet explorer.
Here is what I've done so far:
1 - removed sidesearch
2 - erased any mention of lycos and/or sidesearch from the
hard disk
3 - erased any mention of lycos and/or sidesearch from the
registry
4 - delete 3 classes from the registry mysteriously related
to lycos sidesearch
5 - run ad-aware (after update)
6 - run spybot (after update)
7 - run hijack this (how do I update that?)
8 - read everything I could find in this newsgroup and mvps
sites
9 - wrote lycos mail begging for mercy
Now what?

i got hit by the same spyware.
run spyhunter or any spy trapper. delete all the
suspected registry keys and executable files. check the
add/remove program if there is suspected program. reboot
the system. repeat all the suspected registry is gone.
sometimes, i had to change the value in order to delete
the .exe file. it needs to take time, but be patient.
