Hi everyone, I have a weird situation: when I click "Log Off" or "Shut Down"
in the start menu, a dialog window pops up. Usually everything except the
dialog fades into black-and-white, but today I discovered that the screen,
besides fading, did something strange and annoying. You can see it in the
two screenshots:

The same happened to my XP Home Edition couple months ago(another hard
drive) and now it also happens to my XP Pro.

Could anyone tell me what the cause is and how to fix it? I really
appreciate any help. Thank You!

That's much better. Have you ran an updated virus scan? I think that could
cure your problem. You do have an anti virus program, don't you?

I had Norton AntiVirus Pro all the time and it never reported any virus
found. So I don't think the cause is virus (although it is still possible)

Hi:
Turned out it's the color depth. Yesterday I changed it from 32bit to 16bit
and the problem came. Now I changed it back to 32bit, everything is normal.

Glad you found it.
