Help with laptop display brightness

The brightness and contrast on my Compaq Presario laptop is such that I
cannot view the screen if I try to use the computer in any type of bright
light, especially out doors.

Is there anything that can be done to improve this situation?

Contact HP/Compaq for repair/replacement. This is a hardware problem you
can't fix yourself since this is a laptop.

That is common with most LCD displays. They wash out in bright lights.
Laptops and digital cameras share the problem..
