Help with Data Prevention error

Recently on my daughter's PC she has been getting a windows pop up
error message that says:
Data Prevention - to protect your computer windows has closed this
program - WIndows Explorer.
If she tries to open Internet Explorer or MSN Messenger they tell her
that the program has closed.

In order to get back to full operation she has to do a reboot.

Anyone have an idea what is happening and what needs to be done to
resolve this problem. Could this somehow be connected with the new
Internet Explorer version that she installed?

Any assistance would be appreciated,

Frank

because it involves
ie and messenger and
because the attacks with them are
pretty intense i suggest:

uninstalling them
first via add/remove programs

afterwards, insert your windows cd
and from the file explorer launch the
setup, that is if the cd doesn't run automatically.

you will get a dialog and one of the options
is to remove/install components. In there
disable/uninstall (again) messenger, msn, and the
i.e. browser too. Later you can reinstall it.

after the above is done, remove cd and
reboot.

then go to start > run > cmd
and type sfc /scannow
and be ready to insert your windows disk
into cd drive. Stick around and wait to ensure
the process is completed, as the cd drive can
go to sleep and will delay the sfc...

afterwards reboot and reinstall the components via
add/remove programs...

Many thanks for the response - unfortunately I have a Compaq Presario
and that pc maker does not provide a windows cd. What I have is a
recovery disk that contains everything that was loaded into the pc at
the factory,

Would you know of any other way to address the problem in the absence
of a windows cd?
