How can I fix this on a system running homne XP

c:\windows\system32\config\system


What does this file do? What I did for now was intstall XP in a new
directory so my daughter could finish her work. Once done how do I delete
the seconds copy of XP since on boot I have 2 choices of XP to run.

You could try a manual System Restore as per the link below. It usually
works very well but in your case this is not at all certain because you may
have contaminated the System Restore files by your auxiliary installation of
Windows. Even worse - your various applications (e.g. MS Office) may have
been compromised if the auxialiary Windows installation resides on the same
drive as the old one. It might be best to fully develop he new installation
and ditch the old one.

A google on the error message should lead you directly there. It's not an
uncommon problem.

After you fix it, you'll need to just delete the extra Windows folder, being
careful to delete the *correct* folder structure. Also, the extra user
accounts you just created. Finally, edit the boot.ini to remove the
reference to the incorrect install.

Then it's working the proper way. That's your command prompt! (There's
no GUI.)

Yes, that is the Recovery Console prompt. It's not stalled; it doesn't show
you anything else. It's not a "friendly" GUI interface.

You enter commands as appropriate. Do check out the KB article, as it
contains the correct commands.

Correct. That _is_ the Recovery Console. From there, you manually
type in the connads you wish to execute.
