This machine has done this so many times htat I an't count them all. My
errors occured on Nov. 8 of 2005, it started when I had a highly graphical
screen saver running and left me a big beautiful blue screen that told me I
had a device failure, ati2mg. something? This is where the fun begins.
Constant reboots for no apparent reason. I installed new display drivers,
first the low end none super graphical interface, Catalyst 5.10. The problem
persisted, so I uninstalled that for an older Cat 5.9, with the nice GUI,
nah...don't like that either. I thought I might have damaged my Video card
from high temps. So I bought a new graphics card, but guess what?, I'm still
having the same problem. I can't get some Security HotFix's to install
"kb896424", Auto Updates say's I need it, I get an error at run program-"ASN1
bad tag value met"? I have ran Virus scan after spyware scan, time and time
again and yet it does not detect anything. I know it's some kinda worm or
virus, or trojan, I just can't seem to ID the Problem. HELP

You bought a new graphics card? They don't give these puppies away, ya
know!)

As per your issue, I have seen this ATI message when a system has been
overclocked and the frequencies via ATI tools have come into play. If this
is the case, I would suggest your checking with overclockers.ati.r.us.

If this isn't the case, I would go to Start/Run/msconfig/boot.ini and select
basevideo and take it from there.
As per your bad tag value met:

"I could not install Windows Update BITS v2.0 and WinHTTP update KB842773.
The stand-alone install gave "ASN1 bad tag value met". After searching for
days, I found many had this error but no help working help was found.

Experimentation showed that the C:\Windows\System32\catroot folder held the
answer, as when re-named, the error changed to path not found 80070003. I
found a bunch of .CAT files in \catroot directory. As I clicked on them I
found two bad ones, oem1.CAT and oem3.CAT. Renaming these two files to .old
fixed the problem! They seemed to have magically disappeared after re-boot."
