Help: SYSTEMced missing or corrupt

Hi,
just got an error message in my WinXP system while trying/attempting
to load it that the SYSTEMced file is missing or corrupt.
This seems to have occured because I did a hard reset on the OS as it
would not shut down, or it just hung as it was closing down.

Now sometime ago, after a similar situation, someone on this NG told
me/gave ne a fix, but that was after I went the long way round to fix it
myself. I would rather not do that again, so if that kind soul reads
this, would/could you please tell me again.
Was it something about renaming another file????

Thanks
