helpctr -regserver
regsvr32 itss
regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx
regsvr32 jscript

What would cause such behavior with the help files??

No idea, Curt. May be caused by registry cleaners perhaps. And the fix from
Doug's site itself has the title "Repairs Windows® XP Help and Support after
running Easy Cleaner"
