Help! Sluggish Laptop

My laptop has been running sluggish recently. Task Manager shows that it
isn't slowing down because of high CPU usage; in fact, it's usually very low.
But when I start an application or revive from hibernation, I see the
harddrive light light up a lot. It seems to be working very hard. It didn't
used to be like this. I thought my harddrive might be fragmented, but Disk
Defragmenter tells me my disk doesn't need to be defragged. I've got a 16GB
harddrive with about 4GB of free space. Is that not enough space? Could
this be why my computer has been so slow recently? I'm at a lost. Spyware
and anti-virus runs have revealed nothing either.

Thanks, cleaning up the temp and cache folders seems to have done the trick.
I didn't realize they would slow my computer down so much, especially since I
still had around 4GB of free disk space.
