Help setting up a wireless ethernet/DSL connection?

Hi all,

I know this has been asked a million times, but I was wondering
what type of equipment I would need to set up a wireless network
capable of running both a DSL/cable modem set up and standard
file/print sharing via windows XP? Can most wireless routers handle
both of these funtions? I've set up a regular wired network to share
files/printers before, but never a wireless one, or one that would have
a internet connection attached to it.

Any help/comments would be appreciated,
Sam.

Well, we also need to know how many systems you wish to make wireless and
how many, if any, you wish to make wired to the router. Also need to know
are you looking for 802.11a, b or g equipment and if you are wanting options
like speedboost. Also please include the square footage you wish to cover
and estimate how many walls the signal must pass through to reach your
farthest needed work area.

And do you wish to have print servers for your printers or are you wanting
to install printer(s) on computers and just network share them?

Most routers, wired or wireless, will not have a built-in print server.
Some do, most don't. But all wireless routers have at least one LAN
port for ethernet connections in a local network, most have four LAN
ports. And all wireless routers will have a WAN port for connecting a
cable or DSL modem. So, the short answer, All or most wireless routers
will have the capability to share files and internet connections. And
you can get wired or wireless print servers from Dlink that will let
you share a printer. Another print share option is to share a printer
connected to one of the network computers. That computer must be
running before another computer can share the printer. And if you are
setting up a wireless network, you may not want a printer connected to
one of the computers.

If you need/want more detail, you need to provide a little more
information.

Good luck, jimbo
