Help required on setting shared folder permissions

M

murras68

I have 2 groups in Active Directory. One which will contain users who
need to be granted Read Only access to files within a shared folder.

The other group which will need to be granted permissions to modify and
update file in the same shared folder.

I do not want users in any of the groups to delete the shared folders
that contain the files.

I'm tearing my hair out over this so any help / suggestions will be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks

M

Use special permissions which you see in the advanced page of NTFS
permissions to give the user/groups different permissions for folders and
files. You will see the available selections in the "apply onto" box. make
sure the user/group does not have the two delete permissions for folders
[and subfolders if appropriate] but give those needing more then read access
everything but full control, take ownership, and change permissions for
files assuming you want them to be able to everything else for files. The
first link below explains more on special permissions and mostly applies to
W2K also. Keep in mind that by default the creator of a file or folder will
have full control permissions to that. --- Steve
