Help - Re-install failed

Windows 2000 Server (PDC), Active Directory
System failed on new NIC driver install.
Would not boot.
Booted from CD, chose Install, Repair.
Windows istall completes filecopy, when it reboots I get a
"Security Accounts Manager Initialization Failed Because of
the Following Error: Directory Service Cannot Start.."
Since the install never finished, starting in Directory
Services mode just checks the volume and restats the
install that again loops to " Security Accounts Manager
Initialization Failed Because of the Following Error:
Directory Service Cannot Start ".

I don't care about the user accounts I can re-create them,
I NEED to complete the install as data on the server is
dependant on the installed programs "Accpac and Pervasive
Sequel Engine"
How can I get past the lsass.exe - system error???

Ireally need to pull this off!!!
Any help would be appreciated.

If you are not worried about AD at all - you could try telling it it's not a
DC...

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ProductOptions]
"ProductType"="LanmanNT"
"ProductType"="ServerNT"

LanmanNT makes it a DC - ServerNT makes it a regular server

You'd need access to the registry to do this - maybe a parallel install?

This sounds like what the Sasser Worm was doing to us.

1: Boot to SAFE MODE
2: Run MicroSoft's Sasser Removal Tool, then
3: Apply the patch described in MS04-011
4: Reboot into normal mode
5: Run Stinger from McAfee (or any similar removal tool)

Good Luck!
