HELP! Powerpoint 2000 Encryption?

J

Somehow I encrypted a Powerpoint file (when I look at the
little thumbnail preview on the left side of the explorer
screen, it says "Attributes: Encrypted."). I remember
futzing around with it a year ago and trying to do it and
it looks like I did. Problem is now I can't open it and
every time I try I get an error message like 'File cannot
be found/may be in use." I think I can figure out the
password, but I don't even get a prompt for it.

Question is: how do I open an encrypted PPT file in
Powerpoint 2000? Need a hand!!

It seems to me that the file is encrypted by Windows rather than PowerPoint
Are you using the same machine and the same user account as the one wher
the file was encrypted

Are you logged in as Administrator or some other user on Windows? If your
account is a not an Administrator account, did you ever use Administrator
account to change your account's password? It seems to me that if you are
did so, then it would change your account's certificates. This would make
your file inaccessible to you since the access rights is controlled through
certificates. In such a case, try logging in as Administrator and access the
file. By default, encrypted files have the Administrator as the Data
Recovery account set on them. So, you should be able to access the file
using the Administrator account. You might also want to clear the encryption
attribute using the Administrator account.
