My friend recently went web searching on my computer and
got a trojan on it. I got rid of it but now when i get on
internet explorer and type google.com or yahoo.com or
anything .com I get taken to a smartsearch web site
search engine. I dont know why it takes me there. I used
to be able to just type google.com and it would go there
but to actually get to a web site now I have to type
http://www. then the site. How can I get rid of typing
htt://www...... and how do I get rid of that smartsearch
thing that I always get taken too.

Run the "Cool Web Shredder"
check for update first.

Close all instances of Internet Explorer and Outlook Express,
click on the executable above and follow the prompts.

Just a suggestion and it sounds like while your friend
was surfing he want to a site that downloaded something
onto you computer unknowingly. i.e. smartsearch. Try
going to Control Panel, Add Remove Programs, and when the
list populates of installed programs, see if this
Smartsearch thing is listed there. If it is, remove it.
this kind of stuff can happen all the time without you
knowing it and it kinda "hijacks" your browser.

If it doesn't show up in your list of installed programs,
downloading a freeware program called Spybot and running
that might find this for you and get rid of it.

No expert myself but this has happened to me too and this
is how I've handled it.
