Help!!!

My computer (Hp laptop 4500 xe) stopped working. When
trying to boot i got a system error message. "lsass.exe
file not found." Thats as far as I could get in the boot
process.

I tried to start boot the system in safe mode and still
got the same message. I then tried to reboot the machine
when things changed! Now when I boot after putting in
password I get the message media test: cable not found
and then OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND. Anyone out there
experience this problem if so where do i start???? HELP!

I got the same system error only with "name not found". I can't boot in safe mode or to any of the options with F8 key. This message appears when I would expect the user log-in screen to appear. I haven't had time yet to change my boot sequence to cd-rom in my bios and then try running my XP disc and see if I can find this file, if it is indeed missing. Have you tried this yet? Anyone??!!!

This is happening to me on my HP Pavillion xt938 desktop. When I go to boot up wither from shutting down or hibernation - I oftentimes get "operating system not found" message and it refuses to boot up. Sometimes it takes me up to 2 hours before it finally kicks in. I need to get this fixed. Any help is appreciated!

Check the cables from the MB to the hard drive; be sure the are securely
plugged. Or your hard drive may be failing.

I just repaired an HP Pavillion for the inlaws that was generating the exact
error. It had a bad motherboard. Since I don't have a mobo tester, I sat
in my office for a couple of days doing remove and replace -- e.g.:

I slaved the drive to another machine and could see all the files; I
replaced the hard drive.
I put the memory in another machine; I replaced the memory from a
working machine.
I replaced the cables.
I took the processor out and put it in another machine.

All parts worked fine everywhere except in the HP machine. Replaced the
MoBo and I was off and running.

Good luck -- HP won't sell MoBos to consumers -- you have to take it to an
authorized repair center and pay $70 an hour shop time plus the retail cost
of the mother board. It was cheaper to buy a micro-atx board and a Retail
version of Windows XP [given that the HP restore disks won't install on a
board with a non-HP BIOS].
