Help no connection to internet

Hi,

I have:

A - Zyxel 600 Prestige ADSL router (acts as a bridge).
B - D-link 614+ Wireless router ( this is where I connect my WinXp and
linux box to).

D-link wire/wireless router. The linux box works perfectly but my
WinXp box does not connect to the internet. I am using DynDns updating ip.

It says current IP is 169.254.130.111 and Updated is, 213.64.158.254.

When an update occurs I get the following error.

'winsock error'

I also tried to login to my wireless router using 192.168.1.1 without
any luck.

Any ideas how I can solve the problem.

cheers,

Dynamic DNS updates the DNS record when your public IP address changes.
DHCP is the service that hands out IP addresses. What IP address does
you Linux box get? Make sure the WAN port of the DLink router is plugged
into the bridge, and that the linux and xp boxes are plugged into the
LAN port of the router. Then your two computers should get DHCP assigned
addresses, usually in the 192.168.x.x range. 169.254.x.x is what a
Microsoft computer will assign to itself if it can't get an IP address
via DHCP. 213.64.158.254 is a PUBLIC IP address, and should be assigned
to the WAN port of the router, not to either computer.

Hi,

Thanks for your answer kurt. I don't remember the ip of my linux box ( I
will check it when I am at home). I have checked to connections between
the computers and routers no problem there.

What is the meaning of a WinSock problem? Any more hints on how I can
check what is failing?

cheers,

google "winsock fixer". Spyware / Malware can corrupt your TCP/IP stack,
and winsock fixer seems to get it all back in order.

I had no luck using WinSockFixer.exe or using 'netsh winsock reset'.

Instead I did I did the following:

Control Panel --> DeviceManager and Removed all my Network Devices.
Rebooted and vola it worked.

Thanks for all the help.

That's what's so great about computers. There's no clear-cut solution to
ANYTHING. It's an ever-changing world of frustration, balanced with
triumph. Glad you got it going.
