Help-Nero write speed problem

S

S.E

I bought V5.50 when it originally came out. I used the nero website to
upgrade to V5.5.6.4 (when It was the current version) as it was XP
compatible. I've been using Nero V5.5.6.4 ever since. I downloaded v5.5.8.2
but never got around to upgrading it.

I had to uninstall Nero recently due to a problem with In-CD. I've lost my
upgrade of V5.5.6.4 but I installed, from CD, my original version V5.50 and
then used my downloaded upgrade of 5.5.8.2. However as soon as I try and
burn a CD, Nero mis reads the maximum write speed as 1x. It is actually a 4x
HP 8200 series External writer. Under V5.5.6.4 it read it correctly as 4x.
Under V5.5 from the CD, it reads it correctly as 4x but that version has XP
issues which were cleared by 5.6.4.

Any ideas why Nero V5.5.8.2 reads a 4x external writer as only 1x when
earlier versions of Nero read the write speed of 4x ?? How do I fix it ??

I'll download the latest Nero version if that solves the problem but I'm
reluctant to download it 'just on the off chance' as its 13Mb and I don't
have broadband (BT haven't upgraded the exchange). Could it be firmware
related ??

Anyway, I'm running WinXP Home (with SP1) with Nero V5.5.8.2 installed.
Until last week, I was running the same system with 5.5.6.4 installed and
without any problem at all.

Cheers for any help you can give me

To the helpful reply from "Amethyst," I'd like to add the following:

According to this page: http://www.nero.com/en/#recorder your burner has
been supported for quite a long time. I'm assuming that it's the 8200e that
you've got, and according to the HP site the original and current versions
of the firmware are the same: 1.0f, so that's not your problem either.

It's probably worth the time to grab the current version of Nero, which is
now up to v5.5.10.42. Maybe they accidentally skipped your burner when they
released the 5.5.8.2 version?

Good luck,
Ian.

so what you are saying is look for a newsgroup on nero
at nero's web site

I am fully aware that this isn't a Nero group but until I identify what the
problem is, I can't discount the possibility that the problem is related to
the Operating System. Windows XP DOES cause problems with third party CD
writing software as it often conflicts with its own inbuilt CD burning
software. My post was to see if anybody else running XP and Nero combined
had experienced the same problem and whether it was due to the OS or any of
it's registry entries, for example.

My original post states, the problem as beginning after I reinstalled Nero
following errors with In-CD. This In-CD problem was entirely due to XP
compatibility issues with packet writing, a situation acknowledged by
Microsoft and Ahead themselves, so I stand by my first post to this NG as a
good place to request assistance with my CD writing problem ! The response
from the first contributor was totally un-necessary and doesn't reflect the
excellent help given by most visitors to this NG.

Isn't too much honour to give such a serious answer to that childish ass
(the Amethyst)?

One tip: ignore them and put them in your killfile (I've done that already).

If the answer given is so outlandish, do a little looking at the header
info, it was not Amethyst who posted that reply.
