Help needed.. XP issues

U

Uncle Vinnie

Hi - sorry for the vague description, I am not sure what is actually
happening, but here goes:

Using XP Home, SP2 - this pc got infected with a bad case of spyware-
Dollarrevenue, Surfsidekick, etc.

EZAV didn't catch it, nor did adaware and spybot. I bought Webroots program
that got most, but not all out. Tech support helped with the final stuff.
All seems to be gone except now XP seems crippled. Internet Explorer does
not connect to websites in Safe Mode. When downloading in regular mode, it
stops at 99%, then nothing else. Mouse moves, but clicks and key clicks do
not (ex: Ctrl/alt/del). Even when dragging files off a usb flash drive,
same thing.. stops at 99%, hourglass keeps going... Webroot is aware and are
working on it, I was hoping someone here can help as well... (my thinking,
Windows explorer is corrupt, a guess really...)

Thank you!

yeh, sometimes running a couple of anti spywares will eventually innoculate
you from the infections.

Firstly go to run via startup button and type msconfig then go to the
startup tab and disable all of the startups that are checked marked. then
reboot. this will ensure a clean startup and free up more memory.

Secondly go ahead and download a couple of more antiviruls and run them
individually. 1) Microsoft defender avail at microsoft.com 2) spyware
terminator avail at spywareterminator.com there are others avail but start
with these 2 first. You will either be prompted to download updates for
them and or to reboot. As these 2 stay resident in memory, they will
constantly be on the alert checking for new infections and they seem to work
just fine together.

Be sure that the other anti spywares do not automatically get loaded via the
startup. Since you disable all the startups, then they will not start. But
if you happen to launch them, they may automatically reactivate themselves in
the startup. So check your options in them to make sure they do not startup
with windows. If you like to run the others simply ensure to temporarily
disable spyware terminator beforehand and you can leave the msdefender alone.

This should fix your problem, but if you still see poor performance from
windows afterwards you may need to perform a "repair windows". let us
know.....

If after you run these
