Help needed with adding 2nd Hdd with different OS

Hi All,
I decided to remove my old HDD, with Windows 95 loaded, from my
"games comp" and fit it to my comp that has Windows XP on the Master HDD. My
comp recognises the new drive but on start up I get the message "Windows
Protection Error" NTKERN. Using "Help and Support" it looked like a problem
with the RAM. I tried to follow the advice of setting the RAM to 16mb whilst
in "Safe Mode" but in trying to get to "Safe Mode" received another
Protection Warning referring to a different device. Am I trying to achieve
the impossible or am I missing something basic here? Any help or advice here
would be greatly appreciated.

move your HD back to the other machine and boot up
Then edit the following file....
To resolve this behavior, remove the following two lines of code in the
C:\Autoexec.bat file by using a text editor, such as, Microsoft Windows
Notepad. If your mouse does not work, you may want to use Notepad from one
of the Windows installations that works properly.
SET windir=C:\WINDOWS
SET winbootdir=C:\WINDOWS

Shut down........hook the drive back up to your XP machine...be sure to set
the jumpers correctly for slave.
Use your BIOS settings to change the boot to this drive..........you will
need to chose which HD to boot from each time as each drive has its own MBR
try again
get back to us if it does not work

After you make this change, save the Autoexec.bat file, and then restart
your computer.

Hi Peter, thanks for the assistance. I did try this but my old HDD in my old Comp will not now Boot up. I have tried the various emergency discs and Norton to no avail. As this is becoming more trouble than it is worth I have shelved the idea and will probably buy a new and larger HDD, partition it and format a volume of it in FAT32. Thanks again in taking the trouble to help me out.
