HELP i can't get my folders to 'open in same window' any more

S

steph

i tried to edit my file types for "file folders" - i wanted to change the
default folder icon (winxp pro)

i set a new icon, and clicked apply - but it didnt show up, so i re-selected
the old icon ('yellow folder' in shell32.dll)

BUT - when i tried to open a folder, it had reset to "open command prompt
here" instead of showing me the contents

so, i went back to file types, and created a "new" action to "open in
explorer.exe" when a file folder icon is clicked

that part worked, but now they all open in a new window and i cannot get
them to 'open in same window', even when i use that radio-button option in
the "folder options" screen

i even tried to "restore all defaults" but that didnt fix it either

what have i done and how do i undo it???

also, i cannot remove or edit the action that i created - all the 'remove'
and 'edit' options are greyed out for the file type 'file folder', even
though the help and support center seemed to think that i could edit or
remove any action in the file types interface

thank you in advance...

Hi Steph,

Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 /i shell32

If that doesn't correct the issue (and it should) use this automated edit:

Search or CMD Opens When Double Clicking a Folder or Drive (Line 18)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the VBS File: Download .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you
may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double-click the vbs file.
You will be prompted when the script is done.

If the above doesn't correct it all: Same Window (Line 209)
