Help - HP CP1160 paper feed problems.

Hi,
I 've got a CP1160 printer and it will not feed paper when the unit is 1st
tuned on. This unit has been sitting in it's box for the last 12 months and
is new in box. The clutch grinds when 1st turned on and when the print head
gets to the left hand side the paper doesn't feed in. The lifter for the
paper carriage doesn't lift

When 1st turned on the paper rollers feed backwards (from the top, around
toward the back of the printer) and when the print head goes to the lhs the
rollers feed forward.

if manually rotated from the duplexer side the mechanism appears to work. ie
if i feed the rollers forward when powered off the paper mechanism picks up
a sheet.

Anyone have any ideas?

The paper feed motor wouldn't be powered backwards would it ?

Anyone have a service manual i could get electronically ?

Many thanks

The rollers initially roll backwards to unhook the pickup roller clutch,
predictably it will engage when the rollers proceed to go forwards. The
grease dries out and causes things such as this if it cant engage.

Hi Dave,
thanks for the info. I applied some machine oil in one or 2 places but still
no go. All the mechanisms seems to work OK by hand.

When it first rotates backards, the clutch bounces back & forth. When the
print heads are over at the LHS it engages and disengages the clutch by
moving to the left a small amount and the clutch does engage disengage, i've
tried moving the head over there manually. I assume this is to feed a page
in, but even at that point when the clutch is pushed forward ,or not
depending on position of the print heads, it will not feed in a page.

I picked this up cheap 12 months ago, it was bundled with a camera. Had no
need for the printer till now so have only just opened the box.

Thanks again
Greg

Hi Dave,
I'm pretty sure it's somthing simple but not sure what I'm looking at :)

I'll persist at poking at bits of plastic etc :)

Thanks anyway

Greg
