Help - how to transfer files from A-network to B-network

Orville Noah

1) Need some basic networking help. We have a local network at
home for three working PCs. We also have a Wireless router
plugged on to the same modem for using movable Laptops.
Is there any easy way to transfer files between the common wired
network and the wireless routered laptops?

2) How to transfer files among two external networks at different
cities through internet? Is there any easy way to make this
separate networks talk to each other? IP address of the networks
are known, and that's all.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

1. Assuming the wireless router blocks the wired access the wireless network, you may need to open ports such as FTP 21 or setup DMZ.

2. For external networks, you may need to setup a VPN to transfer the data. these link may help,

Synchronize data automatically via VPN
We will use robocopy command line to synchromize the data with a report, for example, ROBOCOPY \\chicagotech\mydata\ \\ms-mvps\mydata >c:\logs\chicagotech. ...

Backup data via VPN
Since backup over the Internet is too slow, they just want to do one backup and then synchronize the data every day. Create a batch to include this command: ROBOCOPY...

Robert,

I have gone through some reading of the materials about VPN. Technically,
VPN is not something easy to comprehend, besides, I am sure I have to
spend some good amount of meney. Is there any built-in processes in
the Windows XP Pro that can be learned a bit easier for file transferring?
Thank you for helping me.

thank you for the update. You can use remote desktop. To use RD from outside, you need to open the port 3389.
