Help! error when opening

When I open windows movie maker I get an error message "the collections file
is not valid or corrupted. A new empty collections file has been created"
then it says " A new collections file can not be created" and it shuts down.
Is this happening because I possible moved around or deleted pictures on my
harddrive that were in the collections? What do I do?

It shouldn't be the moving of pictures.
Have you recently made any changes to your pc, installed any new programmes,
removed any, added codecs, pc crashed while MM was open?

I did recently delete programs and software that were taking up room and i
wasnt using. I don't know anything about codecs so I don't think that is it.

My pc didnt crash. windows mm just closed.

Is there anything I can do?

==================================
Windows XP or Vista?

Here's the XP path to the collections file...

C:\Documents and Settings\>user name<\LocalSettings\
Application Data\Microsoft\Movie Maker\

Vista path...

C:\Users\>user name<\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Movie Maker\

If there is a file there...try renaming it to MEDIATAB1.OLD
(if there are multiple files with different numbers...rename
all of them)

Now try opening Movie Maker.

Let us know what happens.
