Help!! Documents and settings folder problem! Help!!

Hello,

I purchased a lightly used IBM thinkpad with XP
professional. It was represented as brand new, but had
actually been used a small amount.

I'm trying to eradicate all the original owners
information, and I'm stuck with the documents and
settings folder... I can't rename it.

I searched the Microsoft site for help, and this is what
I got:

SYMPTOMS
If you try to move or rename the Documents and Settings
folder in Windows XP, you may receive the following error
message:

Documents and Settings is a Windows system folder and is
required for Windows to run properly. It cannot be moved
or renamed.

The next part of the self-help really deals with changing
to a different default folder during installation of XP,
but all I *really* want to do is just re-name the folder!

I ditched the old owner's user account... but am stuck
with the document and settings naming convention.

There has to be a solution short of re-imaging the
computer.

If I'm stuck doing that, is there an IBM specific OEM
version of XP professional that I can purchase?

Many thanks for any help.

Ken

Log in as an administrator other than the user account you wish to
eliminate. (if there is no other Admin account, you can create one following
basically the same instructions, just add a new user instead of deleting
one):

Open Control Panel/User Accounts. Click on the user that you want to
eliminate. Options appear to the left. Choose "Delete the Account". That
will eliminate that useres settings, including Documents and settings.

Hi, I did that, and the user account is gone, but the
documents and settings folder on the C drive is named
RaffiAttar, and I can't rename it. There is no longer a
raffiattar user account at all. Just me, as
administrator, and the guest account.

Is there something I'm missing?

Many thanks,

Ken

Hmmm...did you try restarting the system?

I did that as well... just cannot rename the folder... I
get an error message that the folder is a windows system
folder and can't be renamed (or deleted for that matter!).

Any help is appreciated.

The actual problem is that there are two folders inside
the documents and settings folder, one called "All Users"
and the other, called "RaffiAttar" (the original owner).
RaffiAttar is 422mb,and can't be deleted, renamed, etc.
This is the problem folder.
Any thoughts on how to delete or rename the folder would
be great.

Thanks,

Ken

I'm reaching here, but I'm stumped. but you are logged in as an
administrator, right (and not as the user you want to get rid of)?

Another thought: Have you tried deleting it in safe mode, or in DOS?

I am logged in as an administrator, and the issue really
is the folder other than "All Users" inside the documents
and settings folder.

There are no other user accounts, other then mine
(administrator) and Guest.

Help is really appreciated!

Thanks.

Hi there,

I went into safe mode and deleted the file, and thought
that did it.

Somehow, the file is *still* there after I restarted!

I can't believe this... any other thoughts are
appreciated.

Thanks,

Ken
