These speakers look very cool for sure but they are more of a novelty than anything else. You can certainly get something really better sounding. I have nothing against these two brands, in fact I have owned Altec Lansing in the past for my computer set up and they sure are value for money. Try looking at more conventional design from the same maker and you may end up with a decent sounding system which will be good for long term listening without disturbing you neighbours. These speakers may produce thumping bass and can be a nuisance to folks next door. Besides, some speakers are built to attract attention from the word go and some have the ability to sound good in the long run and be more satisfying.

You have a decent budget and I would recommend to you to get a good head phone and a pair of speakers within your budget so you have the best of both worlds.

These headphones are a steal at the price it is now available and you still have over 100 to spend on a decent speaker system.

As for speakers here is my suggestion:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Z-...?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1276972694&sr=1-21

It is just 80 watts but much better quality in terms of sound, best of all the two items will still be in your budget.

Hope this helps.

Aye, I'd agree with Quad, the Harman Kardons and Altec Lansings linked to are similar to Bose, Apple Mac and Bang & Olufsen - all style and no content ;)

The Logi 2.1's Quad has linked to are very good indeed and will suit you well. Above their price tag you'd have to spend in excess of £200.00 to notice an improvement so either keep your budget surplus or get a set of headphones that will plug into the Logi speakers (and also automatically mute them).
