Help! changing order of photos when copying to a CD

When I copy pictures from my digital camera to the hard drive, each image is
assigned a number. These run consecutively in the order they were taken. I
then selected certain pictures for a slide show, placed them within a new
folder and changed the order to suit my needs. I can save it that way just
fine. But when I copy to CD, the pictures show up in numerical order
according to the number assigned to them when they were first copied to the
drive. I tried renaming them - 01, 02 etc. in the order I want them to be,
but it makes no difference. Ideas? I'm just using the basic windows utility
that is part of xp, not a photo program as such. I'm getting rather
frustrated with this.

WindowsXP sorts your files...first by number and
then alphabetically. If you add numbers to your
sorted files...they should stay in the proper order.

Example...

0001 Kansas.jpg
0002 Alabama.jpg
0003 Nevada.jpg
0004 California.jpg

If you do not mind changing the file names,
WindowsXP can rename your files for you.
(Hint...make a copy of the folder...and rename
the copies)

Once you have the files sorted...go to...Edit /
Select All...right click the first file and from the
menu...choose...Rename. Enter your choice
for a group name, a space...and the number (1)...
press...Enter.

Example...

Birthday (1).jpg

Windows will complete the series.

Birthday (1).jpg
Birthday (2).jpg
Birthday (3).jpg
Birthday (4).jpg

If you wish to batch number your files but do
not wish to change the file names...the freeware
IrfanView has that option:

Download IrfanView 3.91
http://www.tucows.com/preview/194967.html
(get the plug-ins too)
