Help - CDRW not installed

MeAndMysef

The WindowsXP pro doesn't work the the CDRW and DVDRW anymore.

Used to work with no problem whatsoever.

The Device Manager shows yellow exclamation mark on the CD & DVD drives with
explanation that the drivers could not be loaded due to missing or corrupted
drivers.

Uninstall the drives and re-booted, Windows XP recognises it and install the
drivers for the hardware but still have the same exclamation mark. No CD /
DVD drives icon on My Computer.

Boot up pc with setup and BIOS shows "under boot priority, where one can
choose to boot on CD", the CD drive option have an exclamation on the left
of it while hard disc have + sign. Set the computer to boot from CD, put
into the CD drive a bootable CD and restarted. Still boot up from hard
disc.

Can't boot from CD.

Yeah, about 5-6 "Restore Point" but restore unsuccessful at every one of
them.

Even booted to Safe Mode and tried "restore" and still unsuccessful.

Could it be the BIOS is failing?

Does the Bios see them? at start up. if not I would check cabling or other more serious things. switch them to the
primary/secondary whichever it is and see if they are recognized.

Yes, the BIOS can "see" them on the first setup screen.

WindowsXP see them too. But cannot load drivers.

Tried booting from a bootable CD (tested on other computer) and it won't
boot from the CD drive.

Hardware problem with Mobo or BIOS. How to rectify.

I'm trying to avoid buying a new Mobo (for the time being) with Athlon 64 in
the horizon and, possibly, new Intel chip to match.
