HELP! Cannot receive e-mail in Outlook.

I installed Outlook on my brand new HP Pavilion a1709n as I didn't want to
use Microsoft Mail. I am able to send e-mails but cannot RECEIVE e-mails, I
get an error message: "Task 'mail.2xtreme.net - Sending and Receiving'
reported error (0x800CCC92): Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify
your user name and password in your account properties, Under Tools, click
E-mail accounts. The server responded: -ERR Re-Authentication Failure'"

I have contacted my ISP (2xtreme.net) over and over and over! They state
all my settings are correct and this must be a "Windows" or "Windows Vista"
problem.

Next, I installed Mozilla Thunderbird. Now, I am able to receive e-mails
with no problem.......but I am unable to SEND or reply to e-mail! This is
the error message I receive: "Sending of message failed. The message could
not be sent because connecting to SMTP server mail.2xtreme.net failed. The
server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify
that your SMTP server setting is correct and try again or else contact your
network administrator."

Again, as before, I contacted my ISP (2xtreme.net) and they insist it is not
their problem. They verified that my SMTP server setting is correct!

I don't care who is to blame........I just want to be able to send and
receive my e-mail through either Outlook or Thunderbird.

CAN ANYONE HELP????? IF a Granny screams for help and no one hears her,
does it mean she didn't scream???

This newsgroup deals mainly with Windows Mail issues.
You will get more help by posting in one of the Outlook newsgroups.
Reading your issue reminded me of one of the reasons why I
always preferred OE over Outlook: OE has much more detailed
error messages. Outlook wants to hide the nitty gritty machinery
from the user, but by doing so it also hinders the technical person
who is trying to troubleshoot.

Hi Gary,
I'm having the opposite problem. I can send mail from my email address from
Windows Mail but I can't receive mail or get it from Windows Mail? It doesn't
pop up in my Inbox. What do I need to do?
I've added my email address from Outlook Express off my old
computer. But I keep getting a popup message where I have to put in my
username and password. I don't know my password. When I'm on my other
computer, I just click on Outlook Express and my mail pops up. I don't have
to put in all that stuff. Why do I have to for Windows Mail?

Once a password has been entered, it will be remembered
by the email program, and you won't have to re-enter it.
If you have forgotten your email account password, the only
way to retrieve it is to call your ISP.
