Help! Can I disable wireless network settings?

I was trying to "fix" my wireless connection, which probably didn't
need fixing in the first place. Everything was running just fine until
I did this.

I was messing around with the Network Connections and a wizard and the
last thing I was asked to do was print a sheet with this information on
it:

Untitled
Wireless Network Settings Print this document...

Wireless Settings
Network Name (SSID)
Network Key (WEP/WPA Key)
Key Provided Automatically
Network Authentication Type
Data Encryption Type
Connection Type
Key Index

Now, even though I have entered the Network Key and Network Name into
my laptop numerous times, I can't get connected to the Internet on my
laptop. On my PC, the host computer, Internet works fine. All the
lights on the router are on as usual. The connection on the laptop
shows up as excellent, but I can't browse or get email--can't do
anything online.

Please--if you know what I can do to fix this--help me!!
Thank you!

When you look at network connections, are there any other devices that the
system might try to use to access the internet? If so, try turning off the
services for those connections.

I have a pair of computers, both use local ethernet to a switcher connected
to a cable modem, and then there's a firewire connection between the two
computers. I shut of the file and printer sharing on the ethernet, only
allowing it on the firewire to protect the systems.

Three suggestions :

Go to the piece of hardware that has your working wireless network settings
(mine's a wireless access point) and copy down /all/ the settings. Take care
on the subtleties (WEP/WPA, level of encryption, etc..) and re-enter exactly
the same on your pc. (I'm sure you've done that already - so had I except I
was carrying over the same error.)

Try deleting that network connection and starting again (that way no errors
are carried over).

If that fails, switch off 'key provided automatically' and try entering
manually.

As long as you can see the name of your network on your laptop it's probably
only getting the settings right rather than anything more fundamental - so
just keep at it with the ones you know that work (ie those from your WAP or
router)
