Help: AV scanners report virus!

F

Fedz

I have posted a build (not mine) of K-Meleon (browser) for readers of
alt.comp.freeware to download.

A few have reported this build as a virus from their AVs:
Norton, McAfee and Avast (to-date).

I have scanned using my Kaspersky AV Personal and via 5 online AV scanners
and none report this as a virus.

Can anyone help - please :)

The link for the build is:
http://encoderx.co.uk/id.php?K-Meleon0.9-original-updated-1.7.12-plus4.exe

It's a self extracting .exe

Hope someone can shed some light on this.

Here's a Virus Total result on the file:

This is a report processed by VirusTotal on 12/02/2005
at 12:28:31 (CET) after scanning the file
"K-Meleon0.9-original-updated-1.7.12-plus4.exe" file.

AntiVir no virus found
Avast no virus found
AVG no virus found
Avira no virus found
BitDefender no virus found
CAT-QuickHeal no virus found
ClamAV no virus found
DrWeb no virus found
eTrust-Iris no virus found
eTrust-Vet no virus found
Fortinet suspicious
F-Prot no virus found
Ikarus no virus found
Kaspersky no virus found
McAfee no virus found
NOD32v2 no virus found
Norman no virus found
Panda no virus found
Sophos no virus found
Symantec no virus found
TheHacker no virus found
VBA32 no virus found

So you see only Fortinet came up with a "suspicious"
heuristic alert. What "virus" did the scanners allegedly
identify?

Thank you for your help and reply - appreciated.

This is the post given in reply to my OP of the link to the K-meleon build
download.

"Warning! Don't click on FEDZ link for downloading! Norton reports
4 Trojans! Mcafee as well. [Trojan.ByteVerify & Downloader.Trojan"

Another poster replied that the build does have a good few macros for the
browser so maybe that could have caused a false posititve result?

The results from VirusTotal.com are re-assuring :)

Have them provide excerpts from their respective AV logs logs showing what files that were
deemed infected by what infector.

I also installed K-M from the subject self extracting file and I can
find nothing amiss. KAV finds nothing in the K-M folders or in WINNT
(Windows folders). There are no unusual running processes, and there's
no sign of unusual internet port activity. Spybot and AdAware find
nothing.
