Help and Support not working, Script Errors, ActiveX and Flash not loading

I am running WinXP SP2. Below is a description of what is happening.
Unfortunately, I was unable to attach any screenshots.

(Help and Support Center)
- The help topics do not load and the top navigation is missing
- Displays "Pick a Help Topic" with no topics displayed underneath
- "Ask for assistance" and "Pick a task" are displayed on the right side
with items underneath (links for sub-items do not work)
- The "Search" does not work (no errors, just does not perform the
search)


(Microsoft Update web page)
- This tells me to "Install the ActiveX control required to view the
website"
- I have been able to run this a few days ago, so I know that the
ActiveX control exists


(Macromedia web page)
- Top 2 items are not loading (get icon with red square, green circle,
and blue triangle)


(Services - Script Error)
- I get 2 of these errors whenever viewing the services
- Error message is:
An error has occurred in the script on this page.

Error: Object doesn't support this property or method
Code: 0
URL: res://C:\Windows\System32\mmcndmgr.dll/views.htm
Do you want to continue running scrips on this page? (yes/no buttons)
- Get icon with red X where the status of the selected service is
supposed to be (between "Services (Local)" section and the service listing)


(.NET Framework Configuration 1.1 - Script Error)
- Get a series of errors while viewing the permissions.
- Sample error message is:
An error has occurred in the script on this page.

Error: Object doesn't support this property or method
Code: 0
URL: res://C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local
Settings\Temp\tempFB.tmp
Do you want to continue running scrips on this page? (yes/no buttons)
- I get a "The page cannot be displayed" page when trying to "View
Permissions" after a script error



I have already tried reinstalling Help and Support based on the information
outlined at this page:

This did not appear to solve anything.

Short of uninstalling the OS and reinstalling, are there any other
suggestions?

Hi,

See if this helps:

Download the file OLEfix.zip available here (it is a registry file
that origin from MS Support, and it has fixed the ActiveX problem
for several people, getting this problem after installing KB896688):

http://patch-info.de/IE/Downloads/OLEfix.zip

Extract it and double click the contained OLEfix.reg file. Click Yes
on the dialog box that asks you if you are sure to add the information
in OLEfix.reg to the registry.

You may have to reboot your machine afterwards.

The only problem with this result is that it has to be done on the
clients machine.. So far the 3 options I have found to get our
activex controls working again are to uninstall KB896688, Run that
registry file, or add our site to the Trusted domains... Unfortunately
since our site is visited by tens of thousands every day, that isn't
very practical.. I still haven't heard of a way to make "our" activex
or flash controls acceptable to this update. Oh well.. I guess I will
keep watching the newsgroups everyday until a way appears for me to fix
it on my end as opposed to the clients end.
