Hello - any Codec experts in here !

RJK

I posted my brother a dvd with 4 episodes of a t.v. serial on it,
Episode1 was an *.mpg which played fine on his W98se computer, episodes 2,3
and 4 are *.avi's that will not play on his PC.

On my PC G-Spot tells me the latter three *.avi episodes are Xvid, and
pressing the "Render" button in G-Spot reveals "MPEG-4", and that there are
4 codecs installed on my PC that can decode them.

But obviously, he has to install an mpeg-4 codec to play them on his PC.

Can anyone point me to the easiest way for him to install such a codec, I
did a lot of fumbling on my machine backalong to get it installed, and it
looks like I ended up with four installed / two of them DivX5 - which looks
like they can all play mpeg-4 as well ?

confused, Richard

Talk about a muddle-head I am !!
I got it into my head that he's on W98, and he's actually on XP Pro !
....I'd burnt everything to cd-r , tested it on Dad's PC downstairs which is
W98se - it was all sealed up in an envelope, was about to bung it in the
post - THEN the penny dropped !

....as I just mentioned, (up a post), I eventually remembered he's not on
W98, he's on XP Pro, (my excuse is tiredness compounded with square eyes!).
Fortunately the penny dropped before I shoved the cd-r in the Post Box. Had
to reopen it, burn "XP Codec Pack 1.3.0.exe" onto it, and reseal it. It's
on it's way !! :)

I use DivX from
http://www.divx.com/divx/win98me.php
This is an older version for 98SE. If you want XP newer version you should
find it on this page also.
I use it because it is only for videos and I don't like the WMP9 cover
everythinig tell everything setup.
It has the .avi codec.
