Headers & Footers do not work in PPT 2007

In the "Insert - Text" group in PPT 2007, three things produce
absolutely no results: "Header & Footer", "Date & Time", and "Slide
Number". I'm using PPT 2007 in Windows 7.

I have gone through all the designated steps several times, but cannot
get any of those to yield what they are supposed to. Nothing happens.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what designated steps you're using. What about Insert | Header
& Footer. Does that do any better for you?

Do your slides have placeholders for the headers and date/time and slide
numbers turned on on the slide master and layouts?

If it is possible to post a .jpg here, let me know how; I have a
screenshot showing the steps I've tried that yield no result.

If not, here are the steps:
1. click Insert
2. click Header & Footer
3. check Date and time
4. choose Update automatically
5. click Apply to All
6. [observe that the date appears nowhere on any slide]
7. repeat 1 & 2 above; observe that the dialog box appears as if 1-5
never happened.

Okay, thanks.

Again, do your slides have placeholders for the headers and date/time and
slide
numbers turned on on the slide master and layouts?

You can check this by going to View | Slide Master. Click the big thumbnail
at the top (the slide master) and choose Master Layout on the Ribbon. Make
sure all the options there are checked.

Then go to each of the individual slide layouts (the smaller thumbnails in
Master View) and tick the Footer box on the Ribbon to make sure they're
turned on on the slides.

Then repeat the Insert | Header and Footer steps.

Thank you, that worked. I'll save those instructions in a convenient
place.

I wonder how one finds all of that in the help system? It certainly
was not apparent when I searched on "footer" or "date".

I'm not sure the Help addresses the fact that you need the placeholders
there. I'll ping the Help folks and see what we can find, and if it's indeed
not there, see what we can get added.

Glad to hear it worked for you.
