Header Trouble in Word 2007

I am setting up word templates for my work. I have inserted a full page
background image (45k) into the first page header of the template. The
"Different First Page" box is checked.

This image causes MAJOR slow down of word. The type lag is so bad it
makes
the template useless. When I take the image out things go back to
normal. I
tried inserting a different image (1 png file & 1 gif file) and got the
same
result...MAJOR slow down. When I use one of words built in Header
w/image it
works fine.

How do I insert an image into my header without creating slowdown?

Specs:
Word 2007 * Windows Vista Business (32-bit) * Pentium 4 3 GHz * 1GB RAM

While I personally wouldn't want to work under Vista with less than 2
GByte of RAM: how large is the picture you are inserting? Unless it's an
unreasonable size, I suspect a problem with your screen driver.

Thanks for the reply Robert.

I am attempting to put a full page image in the background of the document.
I have done this successfully in Word 2000 (on the same computer and os) and
experience no noticeable performance hit. In Word 2007 the lag created from a
background image is crippling.

I don't see how Microsoft could let the latest version of Word perform worse
than the previous versions.
