HDD setup help please

T

Tony

My system needs a complete overall.

At present I have 3 HDD ( 2x 60 G 1x 120 G), a DVDR/RW, a DVDROM and
a CDR/RW on a MSI-6570 mobo with promise extra IDE board. AMD 2700XP
cpu & 1 Gig DDR Ram.. WinXP Pro

I want to add a 250 Gig HDD, whats the best way to juggle things
around. The Motherboard contains a raid controller and has SATA input.
Can I keep all the HDDs and add a SATA 250 HDD

Can SATA devices co-exist with the IDE HDD's and Optical drives.
Should I dump the promise board and use the onboard raid to provide
any additional ports.

Which method provides the fastest data transfers

I hope someone can help.

Many thanks.

Tony..

Tony, I hope you have at least a 450W Power Supply. SATA and PATA can
coexist. Some Boards have both SATA
and ATA Raid Controllers. If you have enough IDE channels then you probably
won't need the Promise Board. For more
excellent info on this go to www.amdmb.com forum and look under
Motherboards MSI and also Storage.
