Hello,
My problem is that I have a portion of my hard disk that will not defrag
using the Windows standard defrag software. I installed and have been running
several adware / spyware programs due to problems that were labeled as a
virus and or spyware. After confirming that it did not have any viruses, the
problem was with the motherboard. I have been running Norton Internet
Security 2006. Those programs include Ad-Aware SE Personal, CCleaner, Spybot-
Search & Destroy, Spyware Terminator, TweakNow RegCleaner, and Windows
Defender.
I used System Mechanic 6 to defrag as well as the other features available
to optimize my laptop. I no longer use the System Mechanic 6.
The Laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5160 running XP Pro SP2 and has a 30 GB hard
drive with 512M RAM.
My hard drive is partitioned into (3) segments. The one of concern is the
"Unknown" partition that is 3.50 GB FAT 32.
The other partitions are 55MB FAT, “EISA Configuration†and 24.38 GB NFTS,
“Systemâ€.
I have defragged the HD several times and it shows that 1.30 GB is
fragmented and contains 1,151 fragments.
My questions include:
-Any assistance in how it might have happened such as using the defrag
feature in System Mechanic 6 and how to defrag it would be appreciated.
-Also any concerns regarding the "Unknown" partition?
I appreciate your assistance and input,
