HD ussage indicator bar.

I recently purchased a new computer and am setting it up. The O/S is Vista
Home Premium and is quite different from what I am used to. While in the
process of setting it up I decided to perform a backup following the
instructions. After having performed a this backup I noticed that the HD
ussage indicator bar had changed colour to red as oposed to blue. I have a
very large HD "C:" (400 GB) and it is partitioned for the purpose of storing
the recovery data in case of a system failure. The partitoned drive is drive
D: and it is 6.25 GB in size leaving only 602MB of unused space. Does
someone know wether the bar having turned red is an indication of a problem
with the recovery data or mearly an indication that this partition is almost
used up. Either way, I would like to know how to go about fixing this
peoblem if it is one before continuing my set up.

It is a "your drive is nearly full" indicator.

On my four drives for example, 3 and 4 have only 4.1Gb and 6.7Gb free and
are red... whereas 1 & 2 have 156Gb and 406Gb free and are blue.

Although i can't remember when the flip is made.....

Assuming your D partion is the recovery partion installed by the
manufacutrer the partion will have been made just big enough so the red
indicator is reasonable. You may begin to get warnings that a disk drive is
nearlly full which can be a real annoyance. If that happens and you want to
stop it remove the drive letter (D) from that partion, vista will stop
nattering about it and will no longer show it on 'Computer'

Open Computer mangement,
Storage / Disk Management
In the Disk 0 area should be a partion currently having the 'D' associated
with it.
right click and select change drive letter and paths. Remove the 'D'. This
does not harm the data in the recovery partion and can be reversed if
desited.
