Having trouble designing an intricate menu system

Hello. My first project as a media specialist has me worried. My boss
wants me to design a virtual menu screen with many working buttons which,
when clicked, take you to further menu screens, etc. These simulations of
actual programs will be used to show clients what they can expect to see. I
have done this sort of thing using Macromedia Director, but never PowerPoint.
Where do I begin? And, can I use an existing project to find solutions for
a new project?

Thank you so much for your help!
If time, e-mail (e-mail address removed), otherwise I will check boards...

How many buttons total do you need? Unless you have lots and lots of buttons,
PowerPoint should be able to do this easily. And if you have lots and lots,
PowerPoint should be able to do this with a little more effort.

You can design your buttons however you want and then set up hyperlinks from
your buttons to other slides. Right click on any object in PowerPoint and
choose either Hyperlink or Action Settings. Both will allow you to hyperlink
to another slide in your presentation.

This will get you started and off to a good start

"action settings" are what it's called in powerpoint, where you branch of to
either
- other slides in the same presentation
- or to other presentations

Powerpoint does have a limit on how many links you can have though

see
Lost hyperlinks, hyperlinks link to wrong place, hyperlinks stop working
