Hey all.

I've got a system that has two users using Outlook 2000 for there e-mail,
and one of the users outlook.pst is saying "Outlook.pst can not be
accessed." I have read about the .pst having a 2GB limit in size, and I have
ran several scanpst.exe scans and 2gbpst.exe as well with no luck, I've done
several antivirus and spyware scans with little to no help at all.

So I'm asking what else am I missing.

"with no luck"
What did these tools report back to you?

In case it is damaged beyond repair either restore from backup or start with
a clean profile.

Oops, that should read "start with a clean pst-file". If you can't get into
Outlook you can do this through Control Panel-> Mail

If I start with either a clean .pst file or a new profile, what will happen
with a mail that was already on the system?

HUH?

No, as the pst-file contains the mail.

Hey Roady.

I ran scanpst.exe on a smaller sized .pst file named Alex.pst, and it came
up with 3 errors in 10992. Then when I clicked "Repair." I got "Not
responding." messages.

It seems like both OE and OL, isn't acting properly now, it takes for ever
to open an e-mail in either mail programs. In terms of 2-4 mintutes.

Sorry, I read it wrong ;-) Starting a new pst-file doesn't affect the mail
already in the other pst-file. This way you can use Outlook again while
trying to recover the older e-mails.

Depending on the size a repair can take a whole while. The system might
think it is not responding because of that. Make sure the pst-file is on the
local client and if it is a big pst-file run the recovery overnight and
leave the computer alone.

As for the 2nd OE and OL issue; do a restart of your system and try again.

Usually nothing. It will remain in the old PST, inaccessible until you add
that PST to your mail profile (i.e., open it in Outlook).

John S. Sapyta.

Okay Roady,

This is going to sound dump, but how do you create a new profile/pst file?

I hope you won't mind to guide me step by step.

Hey Roady,

I've got some more info for you. I tried emptying the deleted items folder
but I keep getting C:\documents and settings\alex\local
settings\applications\microsoft\outlook\1033
\outlook.pst can not be accessed. ( I think that right) and I tried doing
the hightlighting of a e-mail then doing shift+delete and that didn't work
as well.

Here are the sizes of the .pst's

Outlook archive

user1 2,097136KB 149,344kb

user2 532,953kb none

So, tell which scanning should I use the scanpst.exe or 2GBpst,exe
(oversized file)?

John.

P.S mind if I e-mail you privately on this matter or not?

J

John S. Sapyta.

Hey roady,

How do Implement the new .pst that I made into outlook 2000? Do I have to
new profile, which I'm not sure on how to do, or can I just go
file ->Import-> then select the new .pst that I recreated?
